Our bioconversion process strictly follows the rules enforced by the EU for the feed allowed to animals under rearing. Our feed mix is strictly from vegetal origins. We however work on a specific mix that helps us maximizing the chitin production within the larvae. All input feed is fully traceable and is GMP certified by our supplier.
Larvaes are coming from the integrated SFly breeding greenhouse. They are transferred into the S-Reactor where they undergo a controlled development. With that machine, we are controlling and respecting the ideal conditions (temperature, relative humidity, light exposure…) defined by us to maximize HI larvaes growth.
SFly is mastering the rearing of the Black Soldier Fly. Our technical greenhouse has been specifically developed to allow breeding within a confined space (less than 1000 m2) and production & collection of millions of eggs. This breeding stage, along with a fine control of flies gestation, allows us to collect and grow very good quality eggs, that give very good quality larvaes, with low mortality and conformance to final products expected.
Inside our 2500 m2 industrial building dedicated to growing and transformation of larvaes into our final products, we are using proprietary mechanical industrial processes (SReactor) and proprietary chemical extraction process to produce chitin with a quality best suited to markets addressed.
Project SFly aims to develop an industry based on mass production of insects (Hermetia Illucens) to produce chitin/chitosan through low impact chemical extraction processes. There is today virtually no production of chitin/chitosan in Europe. Most of the chitin available worldwide comes from shrimp shells extraction, with industrial production being massively in Asia. With limited capacity, and a growing demand, chitin/chitosan is product with a great future, with a great number of existing applications, and a lot more to come and under development.
SFLY manufactures normalized products issued from Hermetia Illucens larvaes, and offers a sustainable and fully traceable alternative to production of chitin / chitosan from shrimp and crab shells. Our high quality / high value products can be used for industrial, environmental, cosmetics and pharmaceutical purposes and markets. Worldwide demand for this material is rapidly growing as potential new applications are discovered virtually every day. By 2016 its overall demand was close to 3 times worldwide production capacities.
